Description
Geckoes are small, lizard like creatures, usually less than 10cm in length. They are nocturnal and have very large eyes and excellent vision in dim light. They’re usually only encountered whilst spotlighting at night. Most geckoes are ground dwellers. Some have adhesive pads on their feet
which enable them to walk on smooth vertical surfaces including glass.
Only two species of gecko are found in the rainforests of Australia’s wet tropics. The northern Leaftail gecko is one of Australia’s largest geckos being over 14cm. It is named for its large, leaf-shaped tail which can be dropped and regrown.
